2022 USC Price in Sacramento Graduation Ceremony -- Congratulations to our future public leaders!

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

USC Price in Sacramento celebrated our 2022 Master of Public Administration (MPA) graduates in an evening ceremony at Mulvaney's in Midtown Sacramento on Friday, May 20, 2022. (Photo courtesy of Lydia Thung)

The 2022 MPA graduates were joined by their family and friends, our MPA alumni from 2020 and 2021, USC Price in Sacramento faculty, USC Price in Sacramento Advisory Board members, and the Price School's Associate Dean and incoming COO Carol Rush. Martha Guerrero, Mayor of West Sacramento, and a member of the USC Price in Sacramento Advisory Board, provided words of wisdom and encouragement for our graduates.

Here are my takeaways:

* our future is in good hands -- these three years of MPA graduates/alumni (2020, 2021, 2022) have experienced a world defined by a global pandemic, economic disruption and inequalities, and racial and ethnic violence -- they persevered and achieved while remaining committed to the values of public service and community engagement

* no one achieves alone -- our graduates brought with them their families, friends, partners, children, and it was clear to me that our graduates' achievements were the achievement of all of their supporters, and rightfully, there was much pride and joy by all in our graduates's MPAs

* being kind is central to learning -- our USC Price in Sacramento instructors, several of whom were in attendance at the celebration, are not only experts in their subject areas but are also kind people -- they created supportive learning environments that enabled learning through severe mental distress, family illness, changes in personal circumstances, and professional challenges -- I am very grateful for their putting their students first

This is the season for commencement and graduation celebrations, and I wish hearty congratulations to all graduates, and for those who are moving into or continuing their professional lives in public service, thank you for your service! I look forward to seeing your next steps!
